Yvonne Sanders-Butler
is a mother, educator, and self-taught chef who just loves desserts.
From the time she could climb up on a stool in her mother's kitchen,
she was helping to stir the cake batter, roll the cookie dough, and
sample the icing. But since those early days in the kitchen, she
encountered several major health concerns, both personally and amongst
the thousand children under her care at the DeKalb, Georgia-area public
school where she served as principal. But life without dessert seemed
like being condemned to the desert...dessert without the "s" of sweet.
So instead of giving up one of life's great pleasures, she found a way
to modify many of the traditional and family-favorite recipes using
natural ingredients. The results were not only healthier but also
satisfying and delicious. Along with her new recipes and following a
generally sensible eating and exercise program, Yvonne lost five dress
sizes and regained her health without dieting. But best of all, she
turned her passion into a mission to create the first sugar-free school
in the country, which resulted in healthier habits and improved
performance amongst her students.
